Hotel Fire report

The PUERTO RICO DUPONT PLAZA HOTEL fire on 31 december 1986.

This very large hotel (ground floor 23.000 m²) had a fire resistive construction, but no fire detection. A fire of criminal origin caused several deaths and large property loss due to the lack of adequate fire safety provisions.

FRAME: The application has been documented in DT73 évaluation des risques, (1988) of ANPI Belgium. The calculation has been made with the data from a report in the NFPA Journal.

The calculated values for this situation were :
R = 6.40, R1 = 2.92, R2 = 8.14

These results indicate a design prone to catastrophe and it happened.
